On December 21, 2019, the "CAAI Entering Universities" event came to the School of Information Science and Engineering of Qufu Normal University. The CAAI Bioinformatics and Artificial Life Committee organized the event. Doctoral supervisor and researcher Fa ZHANG from Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Xuefeng CUI from School of Computer Science and Technology of Shandong University attended and gave wonderful academic reports. Some teachers and graduate students from the School of Information Science and Engineering of Qufu Normal University participated in this activity chaired by Professor Jinxing LIU of the School of Information Science and Engineering.

At the report, researcher Fa ZHANG first made a report with the theme "Pathological Image Classification Based on Deep Learning Methods". Histopathological diagnosis is considered an important criterion for the diagnosis of cancer. Although the application of deep learning improves the performance of pathological image classification, the accuracy of the
classification still cannot meet the requirements of clinical practice. Researcher Fa ZHANG introduced two types of breast cancer histopathological image classification based on deep learning methods. One is a hybrid convolution and recurrent deep neural network for breast cancer histopathological image classification. It combines convolution and recurrent neural networks. The advantages. The other is a new hybrid deep learning method for breast cancer classification using multi-modal data fusion.

Professor Xuefeng CUI made a report entitled "Finding Remote Homologous Proteins: Alignment-Based, Alignment-Free and Cross-Modal Methods". Proteins serve in organisms as enzymes, antibodies, sensors, transporters etc. Understanding protein function is of great significance for biological and medical scientific research. Finding distant homologous proteins with conserved structural similarity but limited sequence similarity is an essential step
in understanding protein function. Professor CUI has proposed three novel methods to find distant homologous proteins with different targets. These methods not only improve the accuracy of discovering homologous proteins, but also the accuracy of predicting protein structure.

This report provided a learning and communication opportunity for the teachers and students in the School of Information Science and Engineering of Qufu Normal University. It also helped everyone understand the latest research directions and cutting-edge subject developments in the field of bioinformatics, and open up their academic horizons.
