Hosted by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, Sponsored by the deep learning professional committee of the Chinese Association for artificial intelligence, and co-organized by Sino-Singapore Nanjing ECO HI-TEC ISLAND development co.LTD., the fifth session of “AI frontier workshop: deep learning” was held in Nanjing on November 23-24 that aims to promote practitioners in the field of artificial intelligence to better understand the frontier of this field, broaden their horizons and effectively improve their academic and technical level. This session was attended by senior experts, scholars and technical leaders in the field of deep learning, and they introduced the cutting-edge progress of deep learning. More than 100 teachers and peers from all over the country attended the workshop, which made a warm atmosphere.

Deep learning algorithm made a great breakthrough in the year of 2010 or so, which once again fueled the explosion of artificial intelligence and the AI boom in all walks of life. Therefore, deep learning is regarded as the way to the future of AI and the tool for human to step into the AI era. This “deep learning workshop” is in response to the needs of The Times, inviting domestic elites in the field to present rich and wonderful reports for you, leading you to the forefront of the times of deep learning, and building a platform for face-to-face communication, discussion and experience sharing between speakers and students.
On November 23, professor Xiangyang JI of Tsinghua University served as the academic director and presided over the first day of the workshop; Professor Jianru XUE of Xi 'an JiaoTong University gave the opening report titled “exploration and practice of deep learning methods for unmanned vehicles”, and Hongkai XIONG, distinguished professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and deputy dean of zhi Yuan college, explained “expressive learning of signal processing”.Changsheng XU, distinguished researcher of Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, explained social multimedia content distribution. Professor Jian YANG, from Nanjing University of Science and Technology gave a report on the study of sparsity and denseness in deep learning. Professor Rongrong JI of Xiamen University explained compactness computer vision analysis system. Fudan university professor Yugang JIANG explained “video-oriented deep learning method”; Teacher Xiangyang JI also made a report of “deep convolution network design, visual monitoring and positioning”.

On November 24, Long XU, a researcher from the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, presided over the ceremony. Maoguo GONG, professor of Xidian University, explained the “multi-objective evolutionary learning of deep neural networks”. Xiaochun CAO, a researcher at the Institute of Information Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, made a report on “content security in cyberspace driven by artificial intelligence”. The IEEE Fellow Sam Kwong, a professor at the City University of Hong Kong, issued an editorial entitled “important Video Coding by data-driven Techniques and Advanced Models”. Finally, researcher Long XU gave a wonderful report on “the application of machine learning in space weather”.

Nearly one hundred students from all over the country participated in this activity. The wonderful report of the lecturers aroused the great interest and enthusiasm of the students. After the report, the students directly communicated with the lecturers in depth, put forward their own thoughts and questions, and answered questions on the spot. The students all expressed that the content of the report is extremely reasonable and the meeting service is quite professional. Although the two-day learning time is short, it is full of knowledge and benefit them a lot. They hope to have in-depth lectures on more subdivided fields in the future.
