On the afternoon of December 23, 2018, the general meeting of the cognitive system and information processing committee of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence （CAAI） was held at Guangdong Ocean University in Zhanjiang. The meeting was presided over by Zhao Lixin, a member of the organizing committee of CAAI, and more than 70 representatives attended the meeting.

Professor Sun Fuchun, director of the special committee, firstly summarized the work of the committee in the past four years. Since the establishment of the special committee in 2014, it has organized a number of specialized events such as the Chinese science hot spot forum, Robot engineering competition and AI hot spot seminar, successfully held four sessions of international conference on Cognitive Systems and information processing (ICCSIP), and founded the Cognitive Computation and Systems international journal. The number of members has increased to over 500 so far.

Director Sun Fuchun’s report was unanimously adopted by the delegates. The work of the first special committee was recognized, especially the academic value of several high-end brand activities was praised.

In accordance with the election process of the Chinese association for artificial intelligence, the conference elected the members, standing committee members, deputy directors and directors of the second session. Sun Fuchun, professor of Tsinghua University, was elected the second branch director. Hu Dewen, professor of National University of Denfense Technology; Li Zhijun, professor of University of Science and Technology of China; Huang Panfeng, professor of Northwestern Polytechnical University; Lan Xuguang, professor of Xi’An Jiaotong Univesity; Liu Meiqin, professor of Zhejiang University; Liu Huaping, professor of Tsinghua University; Yu Yuanlong, professor of Fuzhou University; and Wang Jun, professor of China University of Mining and Technology were elected vice directors. At the same time, 12 standing committee members were elected. Fang Bin of Tsinghua university and Yin Jianqin of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications were elected as the chief and deputy secretary general respectively. 

On behalf of the Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence, Zhao Lixin congratulated the members and expressed great expectations for the future work of the special committee. Sun Fuchun expressed his gratitude for the support and trust of the CAAI and made a plan for the next stage of work. Deputy directors Hu Dewen, Lan Xuguang and other members all spoke actively and were willing to make more efforts for the development of the special committee.
