On September 3, the “CAAI AI Basic Research Youth Support Academic Salon” was held in Beijing, co-hosted by the training and talent service center of the China Association for Science and Technology and CAAI. The salon was presided over by Professor Han Honggui, Vice President of the Graduate School of the Beijing University of Technology, who has been selected as a member of the China Association for Science and Technology’s Youth Talent Support Project (the “Youth Support Project” for short).Wang Ziyuan and Qi Jiaru, Program Directors of the Training and Talent Service Center of the China Association for Science and Technology, as well as more than 30 Youth Support Project members from Tsinghua University, Nankai University, Nanjing University, Beijing University of Technology, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Hefei University of Technology, Ningxia University, CAS Automation Institute, Beijing Mainline Technology Co., Ltd. and experts and young scholars from the field of artificial intelligence participated in this academic salon online or offline.

At the beginning of the event, Professor Sun Fuchun, Vice-President of CAAI and Professor from Tsinghua University, said that CAAI should make its own characteristics on the Youth Support platform. First of all, it needs to expand the influence of the Youth Support talents. Second, it needs to help young talent to step onto a new level as soon as possible. We also hope to have some new initiatives to support the talents.

Since the implementation of the China Association for Science and Technology Young Talents Support Project in 2015, CAAI has upheld the principle of fairness and justice, and has supported 12 outstanding young talents. At the salon, 12 young talents made wonderful reports about basic research of AI and provided suggestions on the development of related technologies in basic research on artificial intelligence and the important contributions of young scholars. The delegates at the meeting had an in-depth discussion on “Basic Research of AI” and put forward many constructive suggestions. They also agreed that this salon is a rare opportunity for mutual learning and exchange, to guide young talents to pay attention to the frontiers of AI and industrial development, and to set up an interactive platform for academic exchanges and production and learning for young talents. It has played an important role in promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, improving the integrated development of science, technology and economy, and making suggestions for the development of disciplines.
