On January 4th , 2019, sponsored by the Chinese society of artificial intelligence, organized by the special committee of bioinformatics and artificial life of CAAI and assisted by automation department of school of Aerospace Engineering of Xiamen University and Xiamen University healthcare big data national research institute , "artificial intelligence into the campus” activity was successfully held in Xiamen University Xiang’an campus. More than 150 teachers and students from school of aerospace engineering, college of ocean and earth sciences, school of life sciences, school of medicine and other colleges of Xiamen University participated in this activity. The heated discussion and positive response on the spot played a good role in promoting the Chinese association of artificial intelligence and the special committee of bioinformatics and artificial life.

Invited by assistant professor Ceng Feng and professor Wang Yin, Zhang Xuegong, director of the CAAI, professor of Tsinghua University gave an academic report of machine learning method system overview for teachers and students in Xiamen University, he systematically introduced the development history of artificial intelligence and machine learning, from the cybernetics, symbolism,perception to hotspots in recent years such as deep learning, and explained supervised learning ,unsupervised learning, representation learning andneural network in a both in-depth and comprehensive way. Professor Zhang's report is lively and interesting, with deep thinking on artificial intelligence and machine learning, which is extremely inspiring. As the second part of this activity, professor Zhang and the students had an interactive communication about “academic life”. Professor Zhang shared his own experience on issues of interest to students, such as the choice of academic direction and the learning method of machine learning, and encouraged students to dare to face “bad experimental results”and conduct in-depth exploration on the difficulties in scientific research. The atmosphere of the activity was warm and full, which was deeply loved by students. After the meeting, dozens of students scrambled for professor Zhang's signature.

The activity is divided into two periods: academic report and academic life. The first session was moderated by professor Wang Ying, and the second session was moderated by assistant professor Zeng Feng.
