From May 22nd to 23rd, 2024, the Science Popularization for AI in Campus, which was hosted by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), undertaken by CAAI Professional Committee of Intelligent System Engineering and the Chongqing Jiangjin Sipaifang Primary School with the Beijing Zhongchao Weiye Information Security Technology Co., Ltd, was concluded successfully at the school’s conference center. This science popularization allowed AI to enter primary schools. Liu Zengliang, the director of the CAAI Professional Committee of Intelligent System Engineering, proposed the core concept that“ Bringing AI into schools needs to be practical” indicating the direction of a successful activity.
Professor Wang Yuning delivered a special report titled The Application of Artificial Intelligence in Elementary Education, interpreting the issues related to artificial intelligence in four aspects including promoting transformation in education models, achieving personalized education, reshaping the role of teachers, and improving accessibility to educational resources. He stressed that though artificial intelligence can replace teachers in many aspects regarding their functions, it is irreplaceable for the teachers’ charisma and interpersonal skills, as well as individualized instruction and emotional support to students.
In the demonstration session, Jin Wei, the senior engineer of Trans presented the application scenarios of AI in multiple aspects, making participants deeply aware of how artificial intelligence drives civilization into a new era. In the discussion phase, participants engaged in a lively discussion about how to build robots suitable for pupils. Finally, the event concluded with a summary of the application of artificial intelligence in education and the significance and prospect of the research and development of robots related to primary education. In the future, the research and development of robots for elementary education will be one of the important development directions in the education field to bring more intelligent and personalized learning experiences to pupils.
