On June 14, 2024, the general meeting of the Professional Committee on Bioinformatics and Artificial Life (hereinafter referred to as the  Committee) of the Chinese Academy of Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) was successfully held in Guilin. Under the efforts of the leaders of the fourth Specialized Committee, the Professional Committee has grown rapidly, with the effective membership growing from 826 in 2,019 to 2,039 in 2024, becoming one of the large-scale specialized committees of CAAI, and has been awarded as an excellent specialized committee for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022. The Specialized Committee has great cohesion and has become an important platform for experts and scholars in this field to communicate and grow. The renewal of the Professional Committee has injected new vitality into the development and construction of the Society.

After individual application, submission to CAAI for approval, and on-site voting, the 5th Professional Committee produced 152 members from 94 units (universities, research institutes, and enterprises) in more than 20 provinces and cities, including Tsinghua University. After deliberation and secret ballot by all participating members (143/152), the fifth CAAI Bioinformatics and Artificial Life Committee leadership team was democratically elected: Prof. Wang Xiaowei of Tsinghua University was elected as the chairman; Prof. Shen Hongbin of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Prof. Pan Gang of Zhejiang University, Prof. Zhao Xingming of Fudan University, Prof. Li Min of Central South University, Prof. Cai Hongmin of South China University of Technology and Prof. Wang Ying of Xiamen University were elected as the vice-chairmen. Prof. Wang Ying of Xiamen University was elected as the vice-chairman; 40 standing members of the committee were also elected; and Associate Researcher Chen Ha-bing of the Military Medical Research Institute served as the secretary-general of the committee. At the same time, Prof. Zhang Xuegong of Tsinghua University and Prof. Zhang Changshui of Tsinghua University were elected as honorary directors of the committee, and Prof. Gao Lin of Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology, Prof. Wang Zengfu of University of Science and Technology of China and Prof. Zhang Tao of Tsinghua University were elected as honorary members.
