The 23rd China Robot and AI Competition Opens Successfully

On December 11, the 23rd China Robot and Artificial Intelligence Competition and 2021 Mingyue Lake Innovation Forum was held in Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone. Nearly 100 experts and scholars in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence participated in this contest, and more than 1,000 outstanding college teams start online and offline competition at the same time.

The theme of this competition is “the moon rising from the Liangjiang, innovation for the future”. It is hosted by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, undertaken by Chongqing Liangjiang New District Management Committee, Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation District Company, CAAI Robot Culture and Art Professional Committee, Leju (Shenzhen) Robot, and co-organized by Chongqing Research Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology, Chongqing Nankai Liangjiang Middle School, Chongqing Robot and Intelligent Equipment Industry Federation.

The purpose of the event is to build the nationwide top talent exchange and competition platform, seize the opportunity of the new round of technological revolution, give full play to the advantages of science and education talents and distinctive industries, and fully realize the synergy between talents and industries, and jointly promote the development of strategic emerging industries represented by artificial intelligence and robots.

The national final of this year is held in the form of the combination of online and offline. The competition is divided into two groups: colleges groups and vocational groups. The competition includes three categories: innovation, competition, and application. There are 13 sub-categories involving robots in various forms and application fields such as humanoid robots, wheels robots, multi-legged special robots, intelligent agricultural robots and group collaborative robots, etc., to examine the innovative design, creative conception, task-solving competition, and scene-based applications of the robot to comprehensively enhance the players’ knowledge and ability.

Since the start of the competition in June, more than 10,000 students from more than 400 universities including Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, University of Macau, Soochow University, Xidian University, etc. have signed up for the competition. After fierce competition within various provinces, cities, and regional competitions, more than 1,000 outstanding teams were eventually qualified to the national final.

Excellent teams from Tongji University, Henan University, Yangtze Normal University, Soochow University, Hefei University of Technology and other schools have not only won the competition recognition, but also signed a contract with the Harbin Institute of Technology Chongqing Research Institute Lilac Incubator and Mingyue Lake International Intelligent Industry Science and Technology Innovation Base in the Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone and obtained an all-round innovation and entrepreneurship support.

Student Shi from the "I Hiter" team of Harbin Institute of Technology said: “With the development of science and technology and technological innovation, robots have become an important carrier to promote industrial development, and robots and artificial intelligence related technologies have become an important driving force for the development of the times. We hope to participate in the top robot competitions in the country to promote our own learning and breakthroughs in robot-related knowledge, and hope to quickly become useful talents in the field of artificial intelligence and robots through learning, exchange and competition.

Deng Zongquan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of the bureau of the 23rd Robot and Artificial Intelligence Competition, said that this competition is the first domestic competition that combines the development and application of key technologies in the field of robot and artificial intelligence. Since its inception, the competition has been committed to promoting students' participation in scientific and technological innovation practices in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence. It is hoped to cultivate group of innovative, hand-on, collaborative and brave young scientific and technological talents through the technology innovation competition platform. At the same time, he also hopes to take this contest and the 2021 Mingyue Lake Innovation Forum as an opportunity to build the Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone as an important source of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation in the city, and build a high-end talent gathering highland in the western region for Liangjiang New District so as to gather more first-class innovative platform and first-class scientific and technological talents.

On the same day, the 2021 Mingyue Lake Innovation Forum was opened simultaneously. Experts and scholars from academic, investment, industry and other fields gathered at the Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone Fusion Innovation Center, focusing on the frontiers of technology and industry, and discussing the new trends and new ideas and new model of "industry-university-research" collaborative innovation development, so as to provide suggestions for Chongqing's construction of a nationally influential science and technology innovation center.

The forum is divided into the summit forum and the Zhihui Mingyue high-end academic forum. The summit forum invited Sun Lining, the winner of the National Distinguished Youth Award, the Changjiang scholar distinguished professor, director of the 23rd Robot and Artificial Intelligence Competition academic committee, dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Soochow University; and Li Wei, the founding partner of Songhe Capital; Ye Nianqiao, Chairman of China Kepei Education Group and Yu Dong, deputy director of Tencent’s AI Lab,to share their keynotes respectively, focusing on topics such as “integration of industry, education and research”, “technology + capital”, “technology + industry” and other topics to exchange the new ideas for promoting high-quality industrial development through collaborative innovation.

The relevant person in charge of the Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone said that this event will be held together with industry, academia and research circles. On the one hand, it is hoped to attract and tap high-level innovative talents, teams and projects through the competition, shape the “optimal zone” for talent development, and accelerate the construction of high-end talents, and gathering places to strengthen “talent collaboration”. On the other hand, experts in domestic academia, education, investment, research, industry and other fields are invited to build a higher-level and broader "industry-university-research" exchange and interactive platform through this forum.
