VALSE 2019 first established the “VALSE Annual Outstanding Student Paper Award” and Workshop. The awards/links are designed to provide Chinese graduate students in relevant fields with an academic arena to showcase their outstanding work, and to provide graduate students with a “learning sample” of excellent research work. The award process includes nominations and recommendations, VALSE AC primaries, and final evaluation of independent committees. The review adopted an extremely strict avoidance mechanism and confidentiality mechanism. The final award-winning papers and their final evaluation experts were announced at the time of awarding. The first paper of the three award-winning papers and six finalists selected by the Independent Final Review Committee was presented in the “VALSE 2018 Outstanding Student Paper Award Workshop” on the afternoon of April 12.

VALSE was launched in 2011 and is the abbreviation of Vision And Learning SEminar, which means "waltz". It aims to provide an equal and free academic exchange platform for Chinese young scholars in computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, multimedia technology and other related fields. The main motivation for launching VALSE is that we are deeply aware of the lack of a normalized academic exchange platform with Chinese young scholars as the main body in the field of computer vision and machine learning in China.

Up to now, VALSE has been successfully held for 9 sessions, namely VALSE 2011 (Hangzhou), VALSE 2012 (Xi'an), VALSE 2013 (Nanjing), VALSE 2014 (Qingdao), VALSE 2015 (Chengdu), VALSE 2016 (Wuhan), VALSE 2017 (Xiamen), VALSE 2018 (Dalian), VALSE 2019 (Hefei). In addition to the speeches of the conference, the VALSE Annual Conference has continued to innovate, gradually increasing Poster/Spotlight, Demo, Tutorial, annual progress reviews, Workshops and industry technology sharing, and the number of participants has gradually increased to more than 5,000. The VALSE conference attracts more and more companies to participate, and has become an important platform for cooperation in the field of "production-study-research" in the field of computer vision and machine learning.
