To address the scientific challenge of protecting personal sensitive information from patient facial imagesProfessor Lin Haotian's team, Deputy Director of the CAAI Professional Committee of Smart Medical and Zhongshan Ophthalmology Center at Sun Yat-sen University, collaborated with the team of Dai Qionghai, Academician of Tsinghua University and Deputy Secretary-General of CAAI, along with Associate Professor Xu Feng of Tsinghua University. Together, they tackled the complexities through innovative technologies, resulting in the development of the "Digital Mask" technology. This innovation can remove the patient's identity information while retaining the features necessary for diagnosis. Importantly, it addresses the inherent conflict between protecting the personal sensitive information of patients' eyes and faces and the necessity for disease diagnosis based on eye images. The research findings, titled “A Digital Mask to Safeguard Patient Privacy,” were published online in the prestigious international medical journal Nature Medicine ( Q1 in Chinese Academy of Sciences ranking, impact factor 87.241) on September 15, 2022. This breakthrough will fortify the protection of patients' personal sensitive information and foster the high-quality development of digital medicine.
