Recently, sponsored by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), co-organized by CAAI Science Popularization Working Committee, CAAI Women Science and Technology Workers Working Committee, and Shandong University of Finance and Economics, the National Final of the 2021 the 9th National College Students Digital Media Sci-Tech Works and Creativity Competition came to a successful end.

In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education for epidemic prevention and control, with the unified deployment and requirements of the competition sponsors and the competition organizing committee, the national finals of this competition, conducted on October 23-24, adopts the way that the experts are evaluated offline and participating teams are presented online. The competition evaluation group is composed of 18 well-known industry experts from Tencent, Baidu, Toutiao, Zhuhai (Chengmu) Sci-Technology, Inspur Group, Shandong Computing Center, Keming Digital, Hikvision and other companies, and they are divided into 6 teams to conduct the offline review according to the types of competitive works.

In the online defense process of this national finals, each participating team member meticulously prepared their design works, and took a lot of efforts in technology research and development, results display, report defense and other aspects. They connected the main judging venue of Shandong University of Finance and Economics and the Beijing judging sub-venue through the Tencent conference to display their work online. According to the competition review rules, offline review experts listened carefully, questioned and gave the reviews. They made a comprehensive consideration from the perspectives of the creative and thematic expression of the competitive work, the development platform and technical difficulty, the overall degree of the completion of the work, and the future promotion and market prospection of the work. The judging experts reviewed each work with a professional perspective, communicated with the participating members deeply, and put forward feasible improvement suggestions to help the participants improve the work. The tried to evaluate each competitive work in a fair and impartial manner. In the end, a total of 141 first prizes, 261 second prizes and 388 third prizes were selected.
According to the plan and the relevant requirements of CAAI, the competition was held online. The schedule was divided into preliminary competition, regional competition and national finals. In the judging of the sub-contest district, the following divisions were established: North China, Central China, East China, South China, Northeast China, Northwest China, Southwest China, and Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and overseas Chinese. In order to organize the competition with strict procedures, according to the competition plan, this competition has successively publicized the Nominees of the National Finals of the 9th National College Student Digital Media Sci-Tech Works and Creativity Competition (2021) and the winners list of this competition on its official website (mit.caai.cn). During the publicity period, the competition secretariat accepts the supervision of national teachers and students and real-name reports to ensure the openness, fairness and impartiality of the competition and the transparent organization and review.

After the announcement of the competition solicitation, the organizing committee and the secretariat received a total of 3,219 competitive works from 458 universities and colleges. According to incomplete statistics, nearly 20,000 instructors and students participated in this competition. The participating universities include: Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing University of Technology, Shandong University, Jinan University and other well-known universities in our country. Among the participating teams in this year, there are also some teams from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan; in addition, the competition also attracted teams from South Korea. The number of participating teams, the level of participating schools, the quality of entries and the recognition of students for the competition have reached the highest level in history. In the corporate review and communication after the competition, experts also thought highly of the organization of the competition, the quality of the works, and the attitudes of the students participating in the competition.
