The 4th China Intelligent Technology and Big Data Conference (CITBD2018) was held in Chongqing from September 14 to 16, 2018. This event was hosted by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence(CAAI), jointly organized by Intelligent Service Society and Chongqing university, and co-organized by Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Southwest University, intelligent information processing key lab of Shanghai, Society of Intelligent Aerospace Systems, CCF Task Force on Big Data and Chongqing Artificial Intelligence Society. As a high-level academic event in the field of intelligent technology and big data research in China, 205 representatives from 59 universities, 11 research institutes and enterprises in 22 provinces and autonomous regions attended the conference.

This conference focused on big data analysis and intelligent computing methods, neural networks, intelligent medicine, spatio-temporal data analysis, artificial intelligence theory and technology, machine learning, medical big data mining, social network analysis, data systems and analysis and other important topics. Many well-known experts at the conference held in-depth exchanges and discussions on the latest academic achievements, development trends, key technologies and major strategies. During the meeting, a plenary meeting of the intelligent service committee of CAAI was held to develop and receive new members of the committee.

As a director of Special Committee on Intelligent Service and professor of BUPT, Du Junping mentioned in the opening ceremony that the Special Committee on Intelligent Service if CAAI for many years has been committed to the intelligent service branch of artificial intelligence and big data in the field of academic research, introduced its main achievements since establishment, and expressed his gratitude to Chongqing University and its co-sponsors for their great attention and meticulous preparations for this conference.

The conference invited several well-known experts, including distinguished professors of the “thousand talents plan”, winners of the national outstanding youth fund, IEEE Fellow, to give invited reports, sharing the basic theoretical research of artificial intelligence and big data, the latest and practical technologies, cutting-edge development trends and so on.

Professor Li Jianzhong of Harbin Institute of Technology presented the topic of “theory and technology of data availability”. In his report, he introduced the concept of “data availability” by starting from the data reliability used for artificial intelligence training and big data analysis. He also introduced the basic concepts of data availability, discussed several key research directions of data availability, and gave an introduction of the current research progress of the team.

Professor Zhang Shaoxiang of the Army Medical University presented the topic of “precise 3d radiotherapy planning system based on digitized Chinese human body”. In his report, he introduced the construction of digital human data set, three-dimensional reconstruction of human structure and three-dimensional model of human anatomy in China with the application background of radiation therapy for tumors. Through the three-dimensional reconstruction of the structure of the tumor lesion with the model and clinical images and the irradiometric distribution based on the reconstruction results, the important role of intelligent technology in promoting accuracy and high efficacy in radiotherapy is vividly demonstrated.

Zhou Xiaofang, professor of the university of Queensland, Australia, presented the topic of “spatial trajectory analysis based on big data”. He showed the important application of big data technology in road traffic path planning. The typical application of deep learning to road traffic flow prediction is demonstrated by analyzing the massive geographic information data related to vehicle GPS, mobile terminal GPS and APP.

Taking “neural network and intelligent medicine” as the topic of the report, professor Zhang Yi of Sichuan University introduced the basic concept and historical evolution of artificial intelligence, and took deep learning as an example to deeply demonstrate the significant impact of artificial intelligence technology on human society. At the same time, he detailed the application of neural network technology in intelligent medicine and listed a number of intelligent medical products developed by his team in this field.

Professor Xiong Hui of Rutgers University of New Jersey presented the topic of “data-driven artificial intelligence”. He listed several typical cases of the application of big data technology in business analysis, and demonstrated the ability of big data technology to dig and understand potential information through the evaluation and analysis of the flow of people in business circle and the actual number of movie goers in cinemas based on the search heat of geographical data.

Panel discussion is also set up in order to discuss the frontier issues in the field of artificial intelligence more deeply and vividly. The chairman of Panel discussion is professor Wang Xiaoyang of Fudan University. Six professors, including Li Jianzhong, Zhou Xiaofang, Zhang Wensheng, Hu Weiming, Xiong Hui and Gao Yang, are invited to discuss “how does intelligence come from data?” Many hot issues raised by the participants were answered.

The successful holding of this conference provides a high-end platform for domestic research scholars to study extensively and discuss deeply, and effectively promotes the academic exchanges between artificial intelligence and big data technology. At the same time, the discussion along scholars at the meeting further promotes the close contact between researchers in the field of artificial intelligence and big data and well-known experts at home and abroad. It also plays an important role in increasing the popularity and influence of this conference in the field of artificial intelligence and big data research, and even promoting the rapid development of related discipline teams in the field.
