On November 24, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced the list of newly-added Fellows in 2022. A total of 265 scholars are elected in the new list, of which 83 are Chinese. 9 experts of CAAI are elected into the list, namely Professor Yang Chunhua, director of CAAI; Dr. Wang Haifeng, CAAI Fellow and members of CAAI including researcher Shan Shiguang,Professor Wang Yu, Professor Li Zhijun, Professor Tian Yonghong, Professor Fu Xiaoming, Professor Yan Ruqiang, and Professor Han Junwei .


IEEE Fellow is the highest-level member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the highest honor granted to members of IEEE. Every year, approximately 300 candidates are selected by IEEE peer experts from the members with senior or life level. Elected persons need to make significant contributions to the advancement or application of engineering science and technology, and bring significant value to society. The number of selected members shall not exceed 1‰ of the total number of IEEE members in that year. Since the number of IEEE Fellows selected every year is limited, the selected scientists are all outstanding scientists who have made important achievements in the field of science and engineering technology.

Yang Chunhua


Professor of Central South University

Dean of the School of Automation, Central South University; CAAI director; national distinguished youth winner, and expert enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council. He has successively undertaken more than 30 major scientific research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including the “863 Program”, the “973 Program”, the national science and technology project, the national high-tech industrialization project, the national technology innovation fund project, and the cooperation between factories and schools. He also published more than 110 academic papers, among which 52 were included by the three authoritative retrieval systems of the international SCI, EI and ISTP; identified 15 scientific and technological achievements and applied for 5 national invention patents. He has won 1 National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, 2 Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress First Prize, 7 Second Prize and 3 Third Prize.

Wang Haifeng

CTO of Baidu

He is ACL/CAAI FELLOW, responsible for Baidu’s artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, security and other technologies and ecology, as well as smart cloud, maps, input methods and other businesses. He is also the first Chinese chairman of ACL, the most influential international academic organization in the field of natural language processing in the world, and the first winner of the Wu Wenjun Outstanding Contribution Award for Artificial Intelligence. He was elected as a member of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in 2021. More than 160 academic papers have been published, and more than 300 patent applications have been authorized or published by him. He concurrently held various positions in many international academic organizations, international conferences, and international journals, won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council.

Shan Shiguang

researcher of Chinese Academy of Sciences

He is a researcher of the Institute of Computing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co-founder of Sino-KST. His research fields are computer vision and machine learning. He has published more than 200 papers in domestic and foreign journals and academic conferences, including more than 60 CCF A-level papers, and the papers have been cited more than 10,000 times by Google Scholar. He was invited to serve as the chairperson of international conferences such as ICCV, ACCV, ICPR, FG, ICASSP, and is currently an editorial board member (AE) of IEEE TIP, CVIU, PRL, Neurocomputing, FCS and other international academic journals. His research results won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award 2005, the second prize of the National Natural Science Award 2015, and the CVPR2008 Best Student Poster Award Runner-up Award

Wang Yu

Tenured Professor of Tsinghua University

He is dean of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University, associate dean of the School of Information Science and Technology of Tsinghua University, dean of Tsinghua University Tianjin Institute of Electronic Information. He has long been engaged in the research of smart chips, high-efficiency circuits and systems,a member of ACM SIGDA Executive Committee and the only member of ACM FPGA Technical Committee in Asia Pacific.  He has published more than 310 papers, more than 50 IEEE/ACM magazine articles, being cited on Google Scholar more than 10,900 times. He has successively won the China Computer Federation Green Bamboo Award, Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, DAC 2018 Under 40 Innovators Award, Zhongguancun High-polymer and Engineering High-end Leading Talent Award, the first prize of technological invention of CCF Science and Technology Awarded and other honors. He won the best paper awards of ASP-DAC 19, FPGA17, NVMSA 17, ISVLSI 12, and was nominated for the best paper awards of 10 international conferences.

Li Zhijun

Professor of University of Science and Technology of China

As associate dean of the School of Information Science and Technology of the University of Science and Technology of China,National distinguished Youth winner, he was selected as the Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents under the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, the National Innovation Talent Promotion Program “Young and Middle-aged Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents”, the “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Project” leading talents under Guangdong Province Special Support Program, Elsevier highly cited scholars from 2014 to 2018. He presided over more than 10 major and key projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels and published more than 300 SCI/EI papers, including more than 80 IEEE transactions papers, more than 10 ESI highly cited papers, being cited more than 2,000 times on SCI. and he also published 3 English monographs as the first author; obtained 12 invention patents , 4 utility model patents.

Tian Yonghong

professor of Peking University

He received his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2005,and was a visiting scholar in the Department of Computer Science/Engineering at the University of Minnesota from November 2009 to July 2010, his main research fields are machine learning, computer vision and multimedia big data. He has published or co-authored more than 140 technical papers in authoritative journals and conferences, and has more than 38 patents. He is the current associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Access and Int'l J. of Multimedia Data Engineering and Management. He initiated the IEEE Multimedia Big Data International Conference BigMM, once served as the TPC co-chair of BigMM 2015, and also served as the co-chair of the technical procedures of IEEE ICME 2015 and IEEE ISM 2015, and the member of the organizing committee of meetings such as ACM Multimedia 2009, IEEE MMSP 2011, IEEE ISCAS 2013, IEEE ISM 2015/2016, and as a PC Member in more than ten conferences such as CVPR, KDD, AAAI, ACM MM, ECCV. In addition, he has won many national and ministerial awards in China, and won the 2015 EURASIP Best Paper Award from EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing. He is a senior member of IEEE and ACM.

Fu Xiaoming

academician of the European Academy of Sciences

He is the professor at the Computer Research Institute of the University of Goettingen, mainly engages in the teaching and research related to computer networks and mobile communications. He also is editor of IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Networking Letters, Computer Networks, Computer Communications and other international journals and served as a special expert of ETSI expert working group, secretary and vice chairman of IEEE Computer Communication Technology Committee.

Yan Ruqiang

professor of Xi’an Jiaotong University

He is director of the International Machinery Center, School of Mechanical Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University, ASME Fellow, National Candidate for the “Hundred-Thousand-Thousand Talents Project”, the “Young and Middle-aged Technological Innovation Leaders” under Shaanxi Province Innovative Talent Promotion Program. His main research fields are electromechanical system state monitoring, fault diagnosis and remaining life prediction, artificial intelligence and intelligent manufacturing, manufacturing service integration, biomedical signal detection and processing and the like. He presided over a number of national, provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects such as key research and development projects and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2019, he won the IEEE Instrument and Measurement Society Science and Technology Award and other awards. He is also vice Chairman of IEEE Instrument and Measurement Society, chairman of Signal and System Technical Committee of IEEE Instrument and Measurement Society.

Han Junwei

professor of Northwestern Polytechnical University

He is associate dean of the School of Automation of Northwestern Polytechnical University,and his main research interests are computer vision, multimedia information processing, and medical image processing. He has published more than 80 papers in CVPR, ICCV, MICCAI, IPMI, IJCAI and other top international conferences and journals, which have been cited more than 4,000 times, including 14 ESI highly cited papers, and 7 ESI hot papers. He has been nominated for the best student paper awards at the international conferences ACM Multimedia 2010, MICCAI 2011 and ICME 2016. He also won 3 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards including the Second Prize of Natural Science of the Ministry of Education, and served as the editorial board member of 7 international journals including IEEE Trans. on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. He is also the regional chairman of the authoritative international conferences such as: ICPR, ACCV and others.
