On April 24, the first Congress of Tianjin Association for Artificial Intelligence was held in Xiqing District, Tianjin, marking the establishment of Tianjin Association for Artificial Intelligence. Dai Qionghai, the State Council Counsellor, Chairman of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician, Yao Jianquan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor of Tianjin University, Lu Shuangying, Executive Deputy Director of Tianjin Xiqing District, and Vice Chairman of Tianjin Science and Technology Association, Chen Shengyong, Vice President of Tianjin University of Technology and National Distinguished Scholar, Dr. Xiao Jing, Ping An Group Chief Scientist and National Distinguished Scholar, and Sci-Tech workers and entrepreneurs  in Tianjin artificial intelligence fields, a total of more than 200 people attended the meeting.

The meeting elected the first Council and the leading body of the Association. Professor Hu Qinghua , Deputy Director of the Intelligence and Computing Department at Tianjin University and Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence,  was elected as chairman of the Association. Professor Chen Mingming, Director of the Computer Science Department at Nankai University, Professor Qi Juntong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Robotics and Autonomous Systems at Tianjin University, Professor Yang Jucheng, Dean of the Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Dr. Meng Xiangfei, Assistant Director of the National Super Computer Centre in Tianjin Center, and Zhou Mingli, General Manager of the Tianjin Haier Washing Electric Appliance Co. , Ltd. , were elected as Vice Chairmen of the Association. Associate Professor Feng Weijia of Tianjin Normal University was elected as the Secretary General of the Association, and Professor Xu Jing, Associate Dean of the Artificial Intelligence School of Nankai University, was elected as the Supervisor of the Association.

Receive Help from Multiple Sources and Seek Common Development

Yu Qiang , Executive Vice President of Tianjin Xiqing District; Lu shuangying , Vice Chairman of  Tianjin Science and Technology Association; Dai Qionghai, President of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence Academician; and Yao Jianquan, Academician of Tianjin University, delivered speeches respectively and congratulated on the foundation of Tianjin Association for Artificial Intelligence. Yu said that the Xiqing District, as the location of the Association’s secretariat, would fully support the activities of the Association and give full play to the Association’s platform value.

President Lu put forward specific requirements for the Association’s future work, and hoped that the Association will broadly unite people, give full play to its organizational advantages and professional characteristics, forge ahead with determination and innovation, and contribute to the construction of Tianjin Smart Port.

Academician Dai pointed out that CAAI would make full use of its advantages in cross-region, cross-discipline, cross-field and cross-industry backgrounds to unreservedly support Tianjin Association for Artificial Intelligence in academic research and exchange, activity organization, industry cooperation, technical appraisal and reward, and help Tianjin Association for Artificial Intelligence develop.

Academician Yao said that AI has a remarkable spillover effect, which would drive the continuous progress of other related technologies, and promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and the overall breakthrough of strategic emerging industries. China’s artificial intelligence industry already has the basic conditions for development. The next decade will be the explosive development period of the artificial intelligence technology.

Tianjin Vice Mayor Wang Weidong Met with Academician Dai Qionghai.

After the meeting, Tianjin Vice Mayor Wang Weidong met with Academician Dai and some of the newly elected leaders of the Association. During the meet, he  put forward some suggestions and requirements for the future development of the Association. Lu Weimin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Vice Chairman of the Tianjin Science and Technology Association, accompanied the meeting.

Before the opening of the 5th World Intelligence Conference, the Tianjin Association for Artificial Intelligence has been officially established. It will promote the training of artificial intelligence talents in Tianjin, the integration of production, learning, research and application as well as the deep integration of industries. Tianjin artificial intelligence ecology will be improved to enable the construction of Tianjin artificial intelligence innovation experimental zone.
