On the 22nd, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced the results of the 2019 academician election. Among them, Yaonan WANG, supervisor of the Supervisory Board of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), professor of Hunan University, and Xinping YAN, former director of the Intelligent Transportation Committee, honorary director of the Intelligent Transportation Committee, and professor of Wuhan University of Technology were elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Among the newly elected 75 academicians of the Academy of Engineering, 10 are from the Department of Mechanical and Transportation Engineering, 9 are from the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering, 9 are from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, 9 are from the Department of Energy and Mining Engineering, 8 are from the Department of Civil, Water Resources and Construction,7 are from the Department of Environment and Textile Engineering, 7 are from the Department of  Agricultural, 10 are from the Department of Medical and Health, and 6 are from the Department of Engineering Management. In addition, 29 foreign professionals from Norway, the United States, Canada, Japan, Russia and other countries were elected as academicians of  Chinese Academy of Engineering

Among the newly elected 64 academicians of the Academy of Sciences, there are 11 members in the Department of Mathematical Physics, 10 members in the Chemistry Department, 10 members in the Life Sciences and Medical Sciences Department, 11 members in the Earth Science Department, 7 members in the Information Technology Science Department, and 15 members in the Technical Science Department. Of the 64 elected academicians, 9 were elected through a special recommendation mechanism. Five of them are from the country's urgently needed fields, and four are engaged in emerging and interdisciplinary research. 

The 20 newly elected foreign members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences come from 12 countries, including 8 in the United States, 2 in France, 1 in Australia, Austria, Pakistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Italy, and the United Kingdom respectively.

Yaonan WANG

Yaonan WANG, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, supervisor of the CAAI Supervisory Board, professor and doctoral supervisor of Hunan University, expert in robotics and intelligent control, and member of the Communist Party of China was selected as a national talent in the "Millions of Talents Project" and a member of Chinese Association of Automation. He was once an expert in the field of intelligent robots of the National 863 Program and chief scientist of the EU's Fifth Framework International Cooperation Major Project. He is currently the dean of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering of Hunan University, the dean of the School of Robotics of Hunan University, the director of the National Engineering Laboratory of Robot Vision Perception and Control Technology, and the executive director of the Chinese Association of Automation, and the member of the Ministry of Education's Science and Technology Committee of Energy and Transportation. In 2019, he was elected as an academician of the Information and Electronic Engineering Department of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
