On May 27, 2018, International Forum of Deans of Artificial Intelligence was successfully held in the people's building of Sofitel in Xi’an. More than 1,000 academicians, experts and leaders of science and technology enterprises from home and abroad gathered at the event to conduct high-level dialogues on such key issues as the development and education of artificial intelligence in China, the academic frontier of artificial intelligence and the application and transformation of artificial intelligence. Xi’an mayor Shangguan Jiqing, municipal committee member, secretary of the economic development district party work committee, secretary of the aviation base party work committee of Xi’an city Wang Lin and other leaders attended this forum.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Lin who firstly introduced all the distinguished guests present. Subsequently, Shi Guangming, vice president of Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology, gave the welcome address, and then the CAAI deputy director Jiao Licheng issued a declaration of artificial intelligence in Xi’an. The director of development zone management committee, Qian Huwei gave a presentation of this forum. Academician of Chinese academy of engineering and the president of CAAI, Li Deyi delivered a speech. Finally, the mayor Shangguan Jiqing on behalf of the Xi’an government made statements, he said “as a high-end equipment manufacturing powerhouse, Xi’an boasts western universities and research institutes. The integration between traditional industry and high and new science and technology promote rapid development in the field of artificial intelligence in Xi’an. Covering the core technology, key system and supporting platform and intelligent application of industry chain and high-end industrial clusters are formed. At this point, Xi’an will be a city with artificial intelligence plus core technology in the future. The opening of this forum not only provides a platform for countries and regions to exchange ideas and share results, but also builds a bridge for Xi’an to deepen cooperation and win-win development with other countries and regions.”

In the keynote speeches during this morning, Li Deyi, the director of CAAI, Meng Deyu, professor of Xi’an Jiaotong University, professor Shi Guangming, vice president of Xi Dian University, professor Zheng Qinghua, vice president of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Huang Heyan, vice director of CAAI, respectively delivered such excellent report as “artificial intelligence education”, “undergraduate major and first class discipline construction”, “AI plus teacher development plan”, “the research and application of AI”, “AI plus core science and technology plus internet plus big data.”

As one of the 2018 international conference on entrepreneurship in Xi’an series activities, this forum with “artificial intelligence powering the future” as its theme, in addition to the “special report conference”, also set up the “artificial intelligence and higher education dean peak forum”, “innovation of artificial intelligence technology exhibition”, from the two dimensions of academic exchange and application display and interaction, analyzed artificial intelligence development in the future, imagining the innovation practice of artificial intelligence. This forum invited academician Li Deyi, director of CAAI, Mao Junfa, dean of Shanghai Jiaotong Uninversity, professor Huang Heyan, vice president of CAAI, professor Liu Hong, vice president of CAAI, professor Shi Guangming, vice president of Xi Dian University, Jiao Licheng, the director of computer science and technology department of Xi Dian University, more than 30 IEEE fellows and top international senior experts in the field of artificial intelligence, including representatives from more than 20 AI benchmarking enterprises such as Google, Ali, Jingdong, Sensetime and Huawei. With the most forward-looking vision and international content organization, they comprehensively discussed the new mode of production, study and research of artificial intelligence and the new way of deep cross-integration of artificial intelligence and various industries, promoted the transformation and upgrading of artificial intelligence industry, facilitated the development of artificial intelligence industry in Xi’an, and served the local economic development of Shaanxi province.         

It is reported that this forum was host by CAAI, Party committee of Xi’an, Xi’an government, Xi Dian University, undertaken by Xi’an economic and technological development zone management committee and Joint Laboratory for International Cooperation in Intelligent Perception and Computing, co-organized by Xi’an Suanier, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi Dian University-Suanier institute of AI and Xi Dian University-Weien AI plus joint research center. As the first entity college dedicated to the cultivation of high-end talents in the field of artificial intelligence and scientific research and development, last November, Xi Dian University has formally established the artificial intelligence college. Relying on its advantages in science and technology and talents in relevant technical fields, Xi Dian University has provided professional services for Xi’an and the whole country in terms of industrial talent cultivation, enterprise independent innovation ability improvement and regional economic transformation and upgrading through localized technology research and transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

This forum included 28 special invited lectures, dialogues among 17 scholars and experts. On the 28th, key issues including the academic frontier, application transformation and future development of artificial intelligence will be discussed in an all-round way to draw a picture of the future of artificial intelligence.
