The 17th National Extenics Academic Annual Meeting Was Successfully Held Online

On August 12-15, 2021, the "17th National Extenics Conference", "Artificial Intelligence Frontier Forum" and "Extension Innovation Method Training Class" was successfully held online. This conference is hosted by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, CAAI Extenics Professional Committee, Nanjing Audit University, the Editorial Department of Journal of CAAI Transactions on Intelligent Systems, and the Institute of Extenics and Innovative Methods of the Guangdong University of Technology. There were more than 900 experts and scholars in Extenics studies attended this conference online.

Promote the Development of Thinking Science, Decision Science and Intelligence Science

Researcher Cai Wen, an expert with outstanding national contributions, the founder of Extenics, and the honorary director of CAAI Extenics Professional Committee, gave an academic report on "Extenics Intelligence". The report pointed out that the history of human progress is the history of the development of resolving contradictions, and contradictions are universal. The fusion of extension intelligence and human brain intelligence is the further development of machine intelligence in handling contradictory problems, and it is an inevitable trend. The Internet, big data and a new generation of information technology provide abundant materials for Extension Intelligence.

Extension intelligence uses computers and networks to help humans perform intelligent activities. It is an application of extension theory and extension innovation methods and intelligent technology, such as generating strategies to deal with contradictory problems， mining transformed knowledge， achieving extension intelligence design， operating Extension’s innovative four-step method, etc., has a wide range of applications. In various fields, we can select appropriate contradictions according to actual needs, and use extensional intelligence as a tool to study intelligent processing methods, form some new concepts, and produce some new methods in accordance with the ideas of Eastern System Science. Use this principle to solve more complex, important, and difficult practical problems in this field.

Researcher Cai Wen Made a Report

The intelligent handling of contradictions is an important and exploratory frontier of basic research. If strong support is obtained, a large number of theoretical and application results will be produced, and a variety of intelligent machines that can handle contradictory problems in specific professional fields will be developed. With the further improvement of the theory and method system of extenics and the gradual deepening of interdisciplinary integration with other disciplines, it will surely promote the development of thinking science, decision science and intelligence science, and improve the systematic and scientific nature of handling contradictory problems in these related disciplines. And then may build into a multi-branch oriental subject with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style and Chinese manner.

Online Report

The report caused a huge response. Academician Li Youping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering hopes that extenics will be combined with the national standard UCL to serve the country’s major strategy. Participants said that in the face of major changes unseen in a century, based on China’s development achievements, we should have the confidence and ability to realize the construction of extensional intelligence theory. Use extenics to guide the practice of dealing with contradictory problems, so as to realize the transformation from blindness, contingency to inevitability. The country speeds up the implementation of the new generation of artificial intelligence development plan, strengthens the national strategic scientific and technological strength and solves the major strategic needs of the key technical problem, which is the main battlefield for extenics to show its talents. Participants expressed that they would take the initiative to serve the national strategy, meet local needs, enhance social service capabilities, actively participate in the tackling of problems in the field, and write thesis on the frontier of the motherland.

Extension Intelligence will have broad application prospects in many fields such as intelligence and information, control and detection, economy and management, innovation and design, etc. In particular, the study of theories and methods of intelligent handling of contradictions will be of great value to the development of intelligent science.

“Extension Innovation Method Training Class” was composed of national experts with outstanding contributions, founder of Extenics, Honorary Director of CAAI Extenics Professional Committee, Researcher Cai Wen, CAAI Extenics Professional Committee, Director of the Institute of Extenics and Innovative Methods of Guangdong University of Technology, Professor Li Xingsen, and former director of CAAI Extenics Professional Committee, Guangdong University of Technology Extenics, Professor Yang Chunyan, Honorary Director of the Institute of Innovative Methods, and Associate Professor Tang Long, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAI Extenics Professional Committee, served as lecturers.

The training courses include the development process of extenics, the four-step method of extension innovation, the solution of incompatible and opposite problems, and extension engineering, etc. The instructors used the extension innovation model of “modeling-expansion-transformation-evaluation” as the mainline, inspiring students how to generate innovative solutions and contradictory problem-solving strategies, and pointed out that the combination of extension thinking with their professional fields will play a very positive role in promoting innovation.

The opening ceremony of the “17^th National Extenics Annual Conference” and the “Artificial Intelligence Frontier Forum” was presided over by Professor Li Xingsen, director of the CAAI Extenics Professional Committee. On the morning of the 15^th, the opening ceremony of the “Artificial Intelligence Frontier Forum” was presided over by the deputy director of CAAI’s Extensive Science Committee and Professor Yang Guowei from Nanjing Audit University. Academician of the Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World, Professor Han Liqun of Beijing Technology and Business University, CAAI Vice Chairman, Professor Sun Fuchun of Tsinghua University, Researcher Li Weijun of the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Bai Xiao of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, CAAI Executive Council Member, Xiaojuan Ban of University of Science and Technology Beijing Professors, Professor Peng Yan of Capital Normal University, and Professor Xu Mingliang of Zhengzhou University respectively gave research reports and presented an academic feast.

The conference papers accepted by the Extenics Academic Committee were organized for group exchanges on the afternoon of the 15^th. The two groups had active academic exchanges and discussions, which reflected the excellent academic style of “extension, strictness, modest and trustworthiness” in Extenics. After the exchanged papers are revised and perfected, they would be recommended for publication in relevant journals.

During the conference, the “CAAI Extenics Specialized Committee Committee Meeting and the 2021 Working Conference of the Institute of Extenics and Innovative Methods of the Guangdong University of Technology” was also held, chaired by Professor Zhang Lingling, Secretary-General of the Extenics Professional Committee.

In this meeting, Professor Zhang Lingling, Secretary-General of CAAI Extenics Professional Committee, gave a report on the “2019-2021 Extenics Professional Committee Work Report”, and each part-time head of the Institute of Extenics and Innovative Methods of Guangdong University of Technology also summarized their work at the meeting. At the same time, the conference also selected outstanding workers of the professional committee, outstanding workers of application promotion, and advanced units of application promotion. In addition, the participants discussed the collaborative development plan between the CAAI Extenics Professional Committee and the Institute and the celebration of the 40^th anniversary (2023) of Extenics, and put forward their opinions and suggestions on the work plan of the professional committee and the institute.
