In order to encourage and grant honors to all companies and individuals contributing great in aspects of AI scientific research, technology development and innovation, application and industrialization, CAAI has decided to nominate the 2021 Wu Wenjun AI Sci-tech Prize in line with Wu Wenjun AI Sci-Tech Awards Regulations and its complimenting details under the spirit of Deepening Reform of Science and Rewards System ( State Council Letter ﹝2017﹞No.55).

I. Awards of Nomination

1. Wu Wenjun AI Highest Achievements Award;

2. Wu Wenjun AI Outstanding Contribution Award;

3. Wu Wenjun AI Natural Science Award;

4. Wu Wenjun AI Technological Invention Award;

5. Wu Wenjun AI scientific and Technological Advancement Award (including popular science projects and enterprise technology innovation projects);

6. Wu Wenjun AI Outstanding Youth Award;

7. Wu Wenjun AI Special Award (chip project);

8. Wu Wenjun AI Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award;

II. The Range of Nominations 

The “Wu Wenjun AI Science and Technology Awards” adopt nomination system, and the nominees need be nominated by the following units and individuals. Self-recommendations are not accepted.

(1) Nominated by Units

1. Scientific committees or departments of science and technology in all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities;

2. The CAAI of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities;

3. All professional committees of CAAI;

4. Nominations of the key national higher education institutes for their unit projects;

5. Nominations of large national scientific research institutes for their projects;

6.Nominations of large national enterprise groups for their projects;

7. Nominations of directory unit of CAAI and its members for their project.

(2) Nominated by Experts

Academician of Chinese Academy of Science, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, all winners of Wu Wenjun AI Highest Achievements Award and Outstanding Contribution Award, winners of the scientific foundation of national outstanding youth, distinguished professors of “Cheung Kong Scholars” of Ministry of Education, leading talents of “ten thousand talents program”, standing directors and directors of CAAI and the winners of Wu Wenjun AI Natural science Award, technological invention Award and the first completed person of Special and First Award of Technological Progress in latest 5 years (2016-2020), and joint nomination by 5 or more people.     

III. The Basic Conditions for Nominated Projects or Individuals

The nominated projects or individuals must comply with the related requirements of Wu Wenjun AI Science and Technology Award Regulations and its implementing details as follows:

1. Technological achievements of nominated Wu Wenjun AI technological invention award, Wu Wenjun AI Technological Progress Award (not including popular science projects and enterprise technology innovation projects) and Wu Wenjun AI Special Award (chip project) should be tested by technological achievement evaluation (related agency appraisal and inspection report). And they should have at least 2-year overall technical application (that is, the application certificate should not later than December 31, 2019). The technical inventions should have been granted with domestic or international patent for invention proving its advanced technology, good quality and high efficiency.   

2. The scientific and popularization achievements of nominated Wu Wenjun Technological Advancement Award (popular science projects) should have an evidence with widespread social effects.

3. The enterprises nominated Wu Wenjun Technological Advancement Award (enterprise technology innovation projects) need be founded for more than 4 years and have over 2-year economic efficiency and profit level.

4. Nominees of Wu Wenjun AI Excellent Youth Award must be less than 35 years old (that is, born after July 31, 1986). People who have been selected as national “youth thousand”, “youth outstanding talents”, “leading talents of ten thousand program”, “(youth) Cheung Kong Scholars” and winners of experts and scholars of Excellent /Outstanding Youth science foundation of Natural Science Foundation Council will be not nominated.

5. Projects that have won national or provincial and ministerial prizes should not be nominated.

6. One scientific research project can only be nominated one kind of Wu Wenjun AI science and technology award.

7.National or provincial plans, foundation-sponsored projects should be nominated after passing the overall acceptance test.

V. Nominating Procedure

1. Online Application

Nominees can log in Wu Wenjun AI Science and Technology Award evaluation service platform by their accounts and passwords from the website of http://caai.cn and click “Wu Wenjun AI Science and Technology Awards” or directly log in Wu Wenjun AI Science and Technology Award evaluation service platform (http://wwjkjj.caai.cn) to fill out and submit online application from June 15, 2021.

The deadline of the online application: 24:00, August 15, 2021.

2. Delivery of Paper Application

The paper application of nominations includes the main documents and attachments. The main documents can produce and download from evaluation service platform. (single or double-side printed with A4 papers and attached with watermark of “Wu Wenjun AI Science and Technology Awards”) The attachments do not need to be printed from evaluation service platform. The main documents and attachments should be bounded together, glued on the left side vertically to form a book, with "I. Project Basic Information" as the front page without any additional cover. Then deliver to the CAAI award office after signing and sealing. The paper application should be sent before August 25, 2021(postmark date shall prevail if post), overdue will be not accepted.

The nomination letter of nominated experts is directly sent by the responsible nominating expert or entrusted staff to submit it to our office. As for nominated units, the legal entity shall submit the nomination materials in the form of an official letter.

VI. Other Conditions

1. Wu Wenjun AI Technology Award does not accept secret-involving projects. If the nominee who has participated in any secret-involving research, his or her unit or the relevant confidential administrative department that has the authority to approve the secret level of the project must issue a declassification review certificate of the nominated materials with stamp. The decryption certificate shall be submitted together with the nomination materials. 

2. As for other nominated projects, if the title of the nominated project is not same with the published one, the nominated unit should explain it in the submitted letters.

3. Wu Wenjun AI Technological Progress Award (popular science projects) should also submit two popular science works.

4. if the nominated units, nominated experts who has a requirement to avoid evaluation experts, they should submit “avoiding evaluation experts” (Annex 3) for detailly explaining why the reason and provide supporting materials with nominated unit’s stamp or nominated expert’s sign.
