Liu Chenglin Selected National Talent Project in 2017

Congratulations to Liu Chenglin, deputy director of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, executive director of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), and director of Pattern Recognition Committee of CAAI on being selected into the National Talent Project in 2017.

Recently, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China officially announced the list of selected candidates for the national talent project in 2017, including 411 people from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other national ministries and provinces.

The national talent project is a major talent project initiated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and jointly with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the Development and Reform Commission, the Natural Science Foundation of China, and the China Association for Science and Technology.

It focuses on the selection and training of high-level young and middle-aged leading talents who aim at scientific and technological frontiers and can lead and support the leapfrog development of national major science and technology and key fields. The selection criteria are extremely strict.

In 2017, there were 411 people selected for the national talent project, including 55 from universities directly under the Ministry of Education, 10 from colleges and universities under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, 40 from the Chinese Academy of Sciences system, and 36 from the PLA system. The rest came from provinces, other ministries and state-owned enterprises.

Most of the candidates are top talents in various fields, including natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. Among them, many of the candidates in the field of natural science have won National Outstanding Youth, Changjiang Scholars and other distinguished honors.

Among the universities, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Nanchang University have the largest number of candidates, with 4 in each. Other universities with a large number of students also included Sun Yat-Sen University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Hunan University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Harbin University of technology, Beijing University of technology, Inner Mongolia University, Jiangsu University and Huadong Jiaotong University.
