Recently, the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) website announced this year's new membership list, Xuegong ZHANG, executive director of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), director of the bioinformatics, and professor of automation at Tsinghua University, became the first Chinese scholar to be selected.
Founded in 1997, ISCB is the largest international academic organization in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology, dedicated to advancing the understanding of living systems and advancing global science through computing. The ISCB fellowship recognizes distinguished members who have made significant contributions to the fields of computational biology and bioinformatics, based on the importance of their scientific contributions. A total of 12 scientists were selected this year.
ISCB website evaluation: Professor Xuegong ZHANG of Tsinghua University has made important contribution to the development of methods for the calculation and analysis of transcriptome and RNA-seq data (such as Degseq, DEsingle, SCRL and scFly), established an influential graduate program and trained a large number of students, driving the development of computational biology and bioinformatics in China.
In addition, Professor Zhang was elected in July 2019 as a member of the international society of Computational Biology. At present, ISCB has 24 members. Professor Zhang is the only member from China and the only member with Chinese nationality.
