Xinhua news agency, Beijing, September 17th, Chinese President Xi Jinping signed the presidential decree. The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) adopted a decision on conferring national medals and honorary titles on September 17. According to the decision, the Medal of the Republic and national honorary titles are awarded to 42 outstanding individuals for their contributions to the People's Republic of China (PRC). After that, President Xi Jinping signed the presidential decree to approve the decision.
Wu Wenjun, Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) former honorary president and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, was awarded the National Honorary Title of "people's scientist".

Wu Wenjun (1919-2017) , born in Shanghai, is a member of the Communist Party of China. He is a researcher of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also a Member of the fifth to eighth CPPCC and CAAI former honorary chairman. He made a great contribution to the core field of mathematics topology, created a new field of mathematics mechanization, and put a profound impact on international mathematics and artificial intelligence. He analyzed ancient Chinese arithmetic from the point of view of algorithm, and put forward an effective method to prove geometric theorem automatically by computer, which is called "Wu method" in the world. It has won the highest national science and technology award.
WU WEN JUN AI SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AWARD is the only science and technology award in this field in China named after Mr. Wu Wenjun, relying on social forces, qualified for nomination and recommendation of the National Science and Technology Award.
It is known as the "China's Highest Award for Intelligent Science and Technology", representing the highest honor in the field of artificial intelligence.
