On June 9 this year, the General Office of the State Council issued a notice on Deepening the Reform plan of the Science and Technology Reward System. Its content is mainly about deepening the reform of the science and technology reward system with aims to spark the enthusiasm and creativity of the majority of science and technology workers and deepen the implementation of innovation-driven development strategy.

On November 17, according to the Notice of the National Science and Technology Awards Office on the Nomination Work for the 2018 National Science and Technology Award (National Science Award [2017] No. 44) (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice"), China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) launched the nomination of the National Science and Technology Award Candidates in 2018, and issued the notice of the General Office of the China Association for Science and Technology on the nomination of the 2018 National Science and Technology Award.

This fully reflects that CAST is in the positive response and accordance to the national guidance notice.

Notice on the Nomination of the 2018 National Science and Technology Awards

Members and related units:

According to the Notice of the National Science and Technology Awards Office on the Nomination Work for the 2018 National Science and Technology Award (National Science Award [2017] No. 44) (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice"), CAST launched the nomination of the National Science and Technology Award Candidates in 2018, and the relevant matters are hereby notified as follows:

I. Nomination Prizes and Quotas

(I) Nomination Prizes

They are National Science and Technology Award and National Natural Science Award, National Technology Invention Award and National Science and Technology Progress Award General Project, People's Republic of China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.

(II) Nomination quotas

Each person can be nominated as a candidate of two national science and technology awards in the field of artificial intelligence.

II. nomination requirements

The nominated candidates must meet the relevant requirements of the National Science and Technology Awards Regulations and its implementation rules, and also in accordance to the following requirements:

(I) The representative papers provided for the nomination of the National Natural Science Awards Project should be published before January 1, 2015. The Technology Invention Award and the Science and Technology Progress Award Project should complete the overall technology application by January 1, 2015.

(II) The same person can only be the complete person of a nominated project in the same year.

(III) The complete person of the 2016, 2017 National Natural Science Award, Technology Invention Award and Science and Technology Progress Award winning project cannot be the winners of the 2018 National Natural Science Award, Technology Invention Award and Science and Technology Progress Award nomination project (except for the innovation team).

(IV) Projects listed in the national or provincial and ministerial level plans and get funded shall be nominated later when the project has been passed.

(V) Projects that have not resolved intellectual property disputes may not be nominated.

(VI) The nominated project must have won the first prize and the higher prize of the Institute/Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Award during the past 3 years.

III. Nomination and Material Requirements

(I) After the review by the CAST, the association will arrange for the publicity activities in the unit which the main complete person of the project work for in not less than 7 natural days, and be responsible for the verification process of the objections received in accordance with the requirements of the Notice and the China Association for Science and Technology.

The project announcement and results will be submitted to the institute in writing form after it is officially sealed.

(II) Nomination materials include:

1. What the project has received from the National Science and Technology Awards at the provincial/provincial level and above in the past three years.  Make sure the project meets the formal review requirements.

2. A letter that promises people will only nominate through CAAI rather than through other channels, and the project nominated is eligible for nomination conditions. (the letter must be signed by the first complete person of the project)

3. Two sets of nomination books.

One set of originals (the original one is marked in the upper right corner) and one set of copies.

The main items and attachments of the nomination book shall be bound together, and not to be covered.

(IV) The nomination book is the main basis for the review. Please fill in the requirements in accordance with the 2018 National Science and Technology Award Nomination Work Manual.

The content should be complete and true, and the text should be accurate and objective, with emphasis on the scientific discovery, technical invention or technological innovation content of the nominated project.

 Once the project is nominated, the important information such as the main performer in the nomination book shall not be changed without permission.

The nomination book and work manual can be downloaded from the website of the National Awards Office (www.nosta.gov.cn).

 IV. Submission Method, Time and Address

Please submit the electronic version of the nominated materials and the electronic version of the nomination form to CAAI before December 1, 2017.

Submissions beyond the aforesaid time limit shall not be accepted.
